The Health subject covers lots of areas such as nutrition, sexual education, hygiene, study of human diseases, and much more. There are many ways of how knowledge is presented in the Health subject, and these include of course the usage of books, web articles, showing posters, bringing guest speakers, playing educational videos and/or brief clips to spark the visual understanding of the class, handouts, tape recordings, and so on.
I have had humorous teachers and their style definitely tend to wake up students' attention (small jokes helps to keep students' interest into the subject matter) while the learning process still takes place.
In the schools, some teachers still rely teaching Health only through one textbook and when that happens, students' interest into Health sort of dies because they get bored. Teenagers need variety and when teachers are successful at introducing all Health topics with creativity, not just the books but also using video clips, bringing guest speakers, and so on, these simply sparks all students' interest into learning and that's what matters, that the new generation learns Health with pleasure.

i honestly feel that you have a valid point. i remember taking health throughout my years in hs and i had some teachers who did stick by the textbook and teaches who would switch it up. i liked it better when we had guest speakers such as this one extremly crazy undercover cop who sought out drug gangs in my city of paterson. students really gave him attention and seemed to enjoy the class and what that man was teaching us about how drugs are bad in more ways than one. teachers who stay close to the book will tend to lose their students interest level rather quickly.
I totally agree with what you said about Health classes. I think guest speakers is an awesome idea because it is a real life example and students can see that things do affect us. The jokes are good too because it keeps the students on their toes. They could be wandering off, but then when you say a joke, it brings them back in and focuses their attention on you. With just using the textbook makes a class boring. There needs to be variety for sure, no matter what subject you are teaching. I'm currently taking a Health course now, and we were discussing contraception at the time. She not only had slides, but she had real life examples to show us. Some of the things I never heard about or even seen, so it was cool for her to do that so we are aware of it all.
I believe that usage of posters, videos and pictures have a large impact on students in preventing them in doing some activities. Without these means of communication, I probably would have thought less of some diseases and the severity of teen birth. Great points!
