Reasoning behind the assigned readings
After having selected the book Reading Lolita in Tehran, and reading some summaries from the other books, I think the reason we had to choose one of these books is because they all have a message crucial to teachers-to-be. All three texts deal with overcoming obsticles, and teaching for the sake of learning. When an education is put above all other politics and issues, students will always benefit. As future teachers, we need to learn that sometimes you need to throw caution to the wind, and teach for the sake of your students.

The reason behind this assignment was to make us read something we think we will enjy reading and at the same time learn from real life experiences. The book choices Dr. Dana has assigned us to read all have to do with teachers and students real life experience in and outside of school. Is true that all the books deal with teachers overcoming obsticles when teaching in different situatuations.
I believe that although it is important to read material that has relates to us as future teachers, however i think that it would be much more meaningful if we were in the field teaching.
YES!!!!!!!! You got it, Mary. You really got what I was trying to do (apparently not well enough since other folks didn't catch on quite as well).
I agree. We are definitely reading these because it's some of the same stuff we are going to face as future teachers someday. I am reading Freedom Writers Diary and it's all entries from the students about some of the things they are going through. The kids we encounter as teachers are going to be going through the same or similar problems and we will have to be able to deal with that as teachers.
